KEMRI-Wellcome Trust research ranks in top five

A recent analysis of scientific journal citation indicates that the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme is leading the world in parasitology research, according to Lab Times (www.labtimes.org).  A survey of 39 specialist journals in the field of parasitology was conducted to determine the most frequently cited articles published between 1996 and 2007 to determine the most cited authors, article topics and research country of origin. The number one article cited in the field of parasitology, entitled "The global distribution of clinical episodes of Plasmodium falciparum malaria", was published in Nature in 2005 and co-authored by KEMRI-Wellcome Trust researchers, Bob Snow and Abdisalan Noor.

Of the top ranking authors two of our researchers, Kevin Marsh and Bob Snow, were listed among the top five most-cited authors in the field of parasitology.  Furthermore, Kenya has moved up as a leading contender for the research country of origin, taking sixth place in the world.  For each article on parasitology, an average of 15.1 citations included authors from Kenya, second only to Switzerland's average of 15.8 citations per article.

We are proud that the work of our researchers is making an impact on the world and we strive to remain leaders in medical and scientific research.
