Twitter is social networking forum that allows users to post and receive SMS (short message service) length-messages via the web or via mobile services.  These micro-blogs are known as "tweets" which are then divered to the author's subscribers who are known as "followers".  Senders can limit delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access.  The Twitter service costs nothing to use; however, accessing it through SMS may incur charges from the mobile service provider.
