Young scientists from around Africa learn a trick or two about parasite genomics
The Sanger Institute recently held a workshop for young scientists in Africa about parasite genomics at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi. They trained participants on the use of tools and the use of online resources, mainly developed by the Sanger Institute. The course was run by the Sanger Institute under the Wellcome Trust Advanced Courses Programme. Instructors included Prof Chris Newbold from the University of Oxford and Prof Julian Parkhill from the Sanger Institute. According to Dr Darren Hughes, the Wellcome Trust Advanced Courses Co-ordinator, these courses are designed to meet the needs of regional scientific communities.
