Research

My major area of scientific interest is public health interventions particularly those applied to malaria control.  However given the wide ranging support role that the group I head up plays, I've worked on quite a wide variety of different subject areas including malaria epidemiology and immunology, RSV, HIV and latterly I've been involved with the malnutrition trial work being lead by Jay Berkley.  I work closely with Roma Chilengi in clinical trials and I'm very interested in the use of open source software for managing clinical trials.

As a support function of the statistical suport group we teach an introductory statistics course as a workshop centred around the Stata package however  during the most recent iteration of this we also solved the same problems using the R package.

I've worked in a number of different fields including information systems, demography and epidemiology.  Previous employers include the Demographic and Health Surveys, the MRC Labs in The Gambia and immediately prior to coming to Kenya,  the Louisiana Office of Public Health. I received my PhD in Epidemiology from Tulane University in New Orleans, Lousiana and still like to spend time in the Big Easy whenever I can.
